How Do These Factors Increase Your Sites Rankings?

I was recently on a call the other day with a potential client and something she said resonated with me. She had spoken to another person who was offering her SEO services and this person told her she needed to run a SEO Audit (another word used for analysis) on her site and that it would cost $xyz.

She was completely baffled and lost because she had no idea WHY all this stuff mattered or HOW was it going to benefit her with ranking her website.

After I explained some of the ranking factors Google and other Search Engines like Bing and Yahoo have she totally GOT IT and UNDERSTOOD IT!

That is the purpose of the following

    • SSL (HTTPS) – This is all about Security! When you are on a website that has an SSL (secure socket layer) that lets Google know that information your visitors give you (emails, contact forms and such) is secure. Google is really cracking down on sites that do not have an SSL. So if you and your competitor are trying to rank for the same keyword phrase and they have SSL but you don’t…guess what, their site will rank and yours will not.
    • Sitemap – This simple little sitemap is everything to Google. This lists ALL your pages and blog posts that are on your site. Google will go through all your pages, follow any links to other pages within the site and will choose to index (basically show your pages in their results) your page or not.
    • Duplicate Content – Search Engines are in business to supply their customers, those searching for answers, with the best possible results they can. They want to see original content that is not duplicated all over your site or web.
    • Missing Alt tags/Broken Images – Ever been to a site that has images that didn’t load ie broken images? It can be very frustrating especially if the article refers to that image. Welp, Google doesn’t like those broken images either so we’ll check your site and make sure you don’t have any. Plus, the ALT tag, which basically tells Google what your image is about (think Google image search here) is a big deal so we’ll let you know what images need ALT tags added to them.
    • Title Tags – This is HUGE, these title tags not only tell your viewers what the page is about, it’s also telling Google what the page is about. We’ll be checking to see if you have Title tags on every page, that they are not duplicated and are just the right amount of characters Google wants.
    • Meta Description Tags – This, along with the Title Tags are big deals. Just read again about the Title tags and same thing applies.
    • Heading Tags (H1, H2) – You should only have ONE H1 tag on your page and it should coincide with your Title & Description Tags. It also needs to have the correct number of characters and if you have more than one heading tag you need to get that taken care of ASAP.
    • Broken Internal & External Links – Another thing that can frustrate your visitor is clicking on links that take them to a page that no longer exist or is broken. Google doesn’t like this either so we need to figure out if you have any links that are not working whether they are external or internal links.
    • Low Word Count – Content has always been king and will always be king. Did you know that the average words on the top ranking pages are 1820 words. It’s all about helping your visitor the best way you can. Now this may not always be the case but just think about it…you’re researching SEO Site Analysis Reports and you land on a page that only has 100 words on it with no explanation whatsoever. Then you land on a page that has 1820 words that really go into detail explaining everything you will get with the report and you actually learn a thing or two. Which one would you want Google to rank?
    • Page Load Speed Test – Know that phrase, “Aint nobody got time for that?” Yeah well that’s true, nobody is going to wait longer than 3-5 seconds for your website to load. They will “bounce” off your site which signals to Google that your site or page did not do it for your visitor. You want to make sure your page load speed is less than 5 seconds.
    • Mobile Friendly Check – 58% of searches come from mobile and Google knows this. That’s why this factor in ranking sites is becoming more and more critical. We will run a check to make sure your site is mobile friendly according to Google.
    • Top 3 Keywords – I would say that 9 times out of 10, when I ask a client what keyword phrases they think their customers are using to find them, they are off. Keyword Research is like getting inside the mind of your customer and what they are typing in Goole to find you is probably something you never thought of. We’ll let you know what the top 3 keywords are for your industry/niche
    • Determine top 3 competitors – Most of the time you would think your competitors would be local or in the same industry (which they will be) but we will research and find out what 3 competitors you will have to outrank in the Search Engines.
    • Domain Rating – A high score indicates that a website has a solid backlink profile, those sites linking to yours.
    • Referring Domains – A high number of referring domains can also indicate a strong site—provided that those links aren’t low-quality. We will check and see what sort of links your competitor has and if they are worth anything or not.

  • Whether you plan on making these changes or hiring someone, like me and my company 😉 to do it for you, you will be so far ahead of your competition already.
